Tranquil rivers, rugged deserts, captivating landscapes, ancient statues
and exotic succulents are among the subjects that have been photographed
for this year’s competition, Imagine yesterday…today. Thank
you to everyone to took sending in a record number of entries from Australia,
Canada, Europe, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, the Ukraine and the United States.

Overall winner- Nicola Browne
London based photographer Nicola Browne, who specialises in garden
and horticultural landscape photography took first place in the
Nurtured Garden category, and went on to be awarded the top prize
of ‘Overall Winner’for her beautiful haunting image
‘Poplars’ - an abstract view of tree trunks in a timber
merchant’s garden, Belgium.

Nurtured Garden category
Andrea Jones took second place for her image entitled ‘Picasso
of Trees’ and Carol Sharp was awarded third place for her image
‘Wild Tulip Duet’ Tulipa acuminata.

Nature’s Garden category
First prize went to architectural and portrait photographer Richard
Freestone for his beautiful detailed image Grass Seeds (The Next Generation
2). Allan Pollok Morris was awarded second prize in this category
for his image ‘Moonlight Sonata’ and third prize went
to Steve Gallagher for his misty woodland image ‘Winter at Mayhill’

First prize in the World
Heritage category, was awarded to music and rock photographer,
Jill Furmanovsky for her mosaic of images of the ‘Roman Road
to Glastonbury Tor’. Second Prize went to Peter Mason for his
tranquil image of ‘Orchid Beach’, Frazer Island, Australia
and third place went to Andrew Butler for his tranquil dusk image
of the Temple of Piety, ‘Studley Royal Water Garden’ in
Yorkshire.

In the Kew category
locations photographer, Nadia Mackenzie, took first place for her
close-up view of an ‘Agave’. Horticulture and Garden photographer
Derek St. Romaine was awarded second place for his image entitled
‘Ancient Tools’ and Marcus Foster took third place for
his image ‘Gulls seeking Winter Warmth’.To view all images

Imagine yesterday … today is the third title in the series
of books published by Third Millennium in association with the successful
Garden Photographer’s Association annual exhibition.
The book showcases the very best garden and landscape photography
from some of the world’s top professional photographers and
aspiring professionals. The 2006 edition focuses on the theme of
‘Heritage’ and this beautifully produced book features
nearly 100 eclectic and imaginative photographs on - Nature’s
Garden, Nurtured Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and other
UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The photographs are interspersed with occasional quotations and
insightful comments from the judges on their favourite images.
